A: No, the course will continue rain or shine. If rain is in the forecast please prepare bring appropriate rain gear.
Q: How many students are in the class?
A: Between 6 and 10
A: 14 hours separated into two consecutive 7 hour days.
Q: What is the student to instructor ratio?
A: A maximum of 6 students per instructor. Often times,
there are fewer students per instructor for more personalized attention.
Q: What are the minimum requirements for taking the course?
A: All students must obtain a motorcycle permit before attending class. You must also be at least 18 years of age.
Q: Why do you require someone to have previous experience on a bicycle?
A: While bicycles and motorcycles differ greatly mechanically, the posture and balance are similar. Having this experience increases the likelihood of your comfort when seated on a motorcycle, or riding at slow speed.
A: This permit is obtained by taking a 15 question written exam, available at any
Secretary of State facility. If you pass the exam you will be issued a
motorcycle permit which allows you to ride under the direct supervision of a rider who has been licensed for more than one year.
Q: How can I register?
A:
Online, over the
phone, or in our
office. The full tuition balance is due at time of registration since your enrollment guarantees a spot in a scheduled class.
Q: What if I am from out of state?
A: You must still hold a valid permit from your home state to take the course. However, the licensing exam is only available for current Illinois driver license holders.
Q: What will we be covering in the class?
Q: Can you teach me to ride a wheelie?
A: No. MRS teaches only safe,
legal strategies for motorcycling.
Q: Q: What kind of motorcycles will we be riding?
A: Currently, our fleet includes Yamaha TW models (200cc), Honda Rebel & Nighthawk models (250cc), and Suzuki GZ models (250 cc).
Q: How will learning on a smaller-engine motorcycle prepare me for something like a Harley or sport bike?
A: You will learn basic techniques
that apply to nearly all recent motorcycle models, regardless of engine size.
What's more, you'll learn how to be prepared when you encounter different
riding situations.
Q: What if I already have riding experience?
A: This is a great way to
refine your skills and create better strategies for riding. Here is what some
of our previous students with riding experience had to say: "MRS was
a great experience for me even though I have ridden bikes for years. I learned
things I didn't know and it will help me be a more cautious rider." "...it
helped point out some of my bad habits. I hope that I learned to eliminate
these habits and have learned to operate my motorcycle properly and more safely."
Q: What should I bring to class?
A: It is imperative that you
bring your valid
motorcycle permit with attached receipt. Also, all students
must wear over the ankle boots or shoes, a long sleeved shirt or jacket, full-fingered gloves, and protective eye wear.
If you choose to bring your own helmet for class, it must be a full-face DOT approved helmet.
Although we will break for lunch, we also suggest that you bring a snack.
Q: Will I automatically get my M Class License upon completion of the course?
A: No, each student who wishes to be licensed via MRS will return for on-site
license testing on designated Fridays.
Q: What if I fail the licensing exam?
A: You may re-take the exam on any subsequent Friday at no additional charge.
Please note, all students may test up to two times, (re-tests wil not be giving on the same day). There is no additional fee for re-tests. Testing and/or re-testing must be done within the same season the course was completed. No exceptions.
Q: Is there a written exam that must be taken in addition to obtain my license?
A: No.You will have already satisfied this requirement upon taking the written exam to obtain your motorcycle permit.
Q: Is the class difficult?
A: Over 90% of our students
successfully complete the course and go on to obtain their license. Here is
what a few of our previous students had to say: "This was an excellent
course, especially for a beginner. The instructors were very clear in giving
directions, very patient, and very safety oriented. It was both informative
and fun." "I had never ridden a motorcycle, and found the course
very educational, and informative. Thank you for offering this course. I don't
believe I would have ever gotten on a motorcycle without it."
Q: Everyone tells me that if
I start riding a motorcycle, I'm going to hurt myself.
A: While there is certainly
risk involved with motorcycling, you ultimately decide the amount of risk
you're going to accept. Our course will cover tactics for safe and defensive
motorcycle riding that will help prepare you for situations you are likely
to encounter while riding.
