Any other comment or story you would like to add: There is nothing wrong with exploring your limits, and enjoying a little speed but **DO IT IN THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT** Take it to the track! I'm always happy to talk with students about the risks and rewards of track riding. It's easier than you might expect to get into. Warning: It can also be completely addicting. :-) |

Marnie Home town: Los Angeles First bike: My first bike was a 1971 Honda Scrambler (CL350), which unfortunately bit the dust about three months after I bought it. It sure was pretty though. Favorite day trip: My favorite day trip is tooling around downtown when it's deserted---either late at night or early on weekends. It's also great fun to put my 60-year-old mom on the back of my bike and take her out to dinner. That's a different kind of trip though. Favorite motorcycle experience: my all-time favorite motorcycle experience was riding on the back of my dad's "Bumblebee" around L.A. at age five. I think it was a Kawasaki, but no one can remember. All I really know is that it had a custom paint job that was brown with a big bumblebee on the gas tank. My sister and I could both fit behind my dad, with her plastered up against the sissy bar and me squeezed in between the two of them. We'd probably be pulled over for riding three-up nowadays, but in 1970s California---the age of C.H.I.P.S., after all---nobody cared. Hobbies: I play a few instruments and make some stuff out of wood and metal. I also spend a lot of time at the beach with my best pal Cyrus, an eighty-pound pit bull/American bulldog mix. Why I teach? For numerous reasons: to share my love of riding, to help other people learn how to get comfortable on a bike, to put more safe riders on the road. I'm a big believer in learning the fundamentals of all things that you want to do well and, in this case, safely. But there is fun to be had, too---and the more natural and automatic your safety skills become, the more you can experience the simple joy of riding. |
